When we have to source our preserves elsewhere, we use Lizzie’s Larder Preserves from Blackberry Farm Shop at Milton Damerel, just the other side of Holsworthy.  There is a tea room at the farm shop and lovely homemade produce, as well as a multitude of animals to entertain the children.

Every Wednesday there is a producers market in Holsworthy square where a number of local producers sell their wares, I visit the market each Wednesday and pick up what ingredients I can for the next few days.  To ensure all our fruit and vegetables are fresh, I also use the Holsworthy green grocers and Waitrose in between market days.

Although not on our doorstep, I absolutely love the quality of the Yeo Valley Organic products and source these at Waitrose in Holsworthy. The company ethos and the flavour of their produce is second to none. I buy yoghurts and butter from this company who are based in Blagdon, Somerset.

St Kitts Herbery is based at Camelford in Cornwall just a 30 minute drive from Leworthy.  They use traditional principles of herbal practice to produce a range of modern yet classic herbal products.  A qualified herbalist makes the products on the premises with the special care, knowledge and attention gained from years of experience.

I bumped into D.J. Miles teas at the ‘Taste of the West’ show last year, they specialise in producing high quality tea and coffee and have been doing so for 3 generations, supplying shops, teashops, restaurants and the hotel trade since 1888.  Porlock, in the Exmoor National Park is home to Miles Coffee, where they have managed to squeeze state of the art coffee roasting equipment into what was a stable block, and create something quite unique. They have a wide range of coffees from around the world, all roasted, ground (or left in whole bean form), and packed in Porlock.  Whilst their site at Minehead was purpose built with tea in mind. It has a superb tea tasting room which, together with their tea tasting team, allows them to achieve their goal of selling the best tea possible. To do that means buying the best, taking the greatest care over blending those teas, and being able to pack the teas on-site.

I love Dorset Cereals and I hope you do too, currently I am using their range of muesli’s at breakfast.  Based at Poundbury in Dorset they are not on our doorstep but the quality of their products makes those few extra miles worthwhile.
